Top ten tips for decorating your home at Christmas…

If you missed this the first time around (see the December issue of Darling Magazine, Cobham), here are some ideas to transform your home at Christmas as well as some visual inspiration from a recent evening walkabout in London!

Take a peak at the wreaths and garlands in some of the larger stores – the metallic Copper Wreath by Selfridges is stunning.

Adorn fireplace mantles and stair banisters with fresh or artificial garlands (try rtfactflowers.co.uk). Create your own unfussy arrangements using moss and twigs. Your tree should make an impact, yet be proportional to the size of the room. Should you have a larger hallway, position it in the centre for optimum effect. Theme decorations around your interior colour scheme; a contrast of bronze and gold is very on trend. Add pine cones, berries and scented eucalyptus to create a woodland feel.

10 Easy to Achieve Tips

1. Stand pre-lit bay trees either side of the front door (or add fairy lights to existing trees)
2. Display one or two vibrant floral arrangements in areas of heavy footfall
3. Use beaded crystal fairy lights for an extra touch of opulence
4. Fill hurricane lanterns with baubles (try Cox & Cox, Nordic House)
5. Use battery powered tea light candles as an alternative to real ones – they last longer!
6. Fill unused fireplaces with candles
7. Hang a centrepiece above your feast-laden table
8. Scatter sparkling table crystals (The White Company does a good selection of glitter scatter stars…)
9. Use ivy or similar for napkin ties
10. Indoor fireworks make a dramatic replacement for crackers

And now for the visual inspiration as it really is very hard to beat London for Christmas decorations…
