Monkey Business: a bedroom makeover for our youngest client

This month we are taking a light-hearted look at a recent bedroom makeover for our youngest client to date: Miss E, 2.5 years old!

Her parents asked us to keep it simple, think long term and create a fun design that could be both enjoyed now and reconfigured inexpensively as their daughter grows.  Key colours and themes to be included were hot pink and animals, in particular their daughter’s love of monkeys!  In addition, we needed to favour function over form, durability over looks and create as much storage as possible.

In the bedroom we kept the walls neutral, using an extra hardwearing paint finish that can be easily cleaned. The addition of a wall-sticker featuring her favourite monkeys won lots of approval from our young client and can be easily updated when grown out of.

We continued the animal theme on the window roman blind, adding curtains with a hot pink border to inject some colour and pull the scheme together (plus ensure complete darkness in the room). The curtain fabric is washable and can be retained throughout the teenage years with the scheme being updated easily by changing the blind.

For storage,  the built-in wardrobe is multifunctional, currently doubling up as a space for “hide and seek” and an overspill for toys, waiting to come into its own in the teenage years with ample room also for shoes, sports kits etc. We were careful to make sure that the low level storage could be easily reached by a younger child.

Our client was chuffed with the result!
